6–10% of people in the US identify as Vegan, and that number is multiplying with the onslaught of animal diseases and rising awareness of the health benefits of plants. Are you curious about what it would take to “go Vegan?” Or worried about sustaining a plant-based lifestyle? Scared of soy? Wondering about where you will get your protein? Read on for some myth-busting and reassurances and a few practical tips along the way from my journey.

Stop worrying about where you will get your protein. It’s in grains, beans, and grains. Animals don’t make protein. They eat beans, greens, and grains, and then people eat the animals. So why not just skip the third-party digestion and go right to the source? Worry about how much fiber you are getting instead.

Fearful about soy? Unless you are allergic, soy is healthy and safe. If you hear or read that soy has estrogen in it, and therefore is bad for you, you are a victim of marketing over science. (And that marketing was probably funded by the dairy industry.) Soy has plant estrogen, not human estrogen. Don’t take my word for it.
